Based in the Swiss Emmental valley, Lanz Recording Studio specializes in recording chamber music, symphonic orchestras, choir music, and brass. To simulate rooms, Lanz has counted on top-notch Quantec equipment for decades. Using this unique gear, Lanz can depict real rooms, or retouch rooms with somewhat inappropriate acoustics - a task only Quantec can cope with.

Recently Quantec has been chosen for use at the Lucerne KKL. In this concert hall, there are large reverberation chambers beyond the lateral balconies. By adequately opening folding/swing doors, the concert hall can be fed with an arbitrary intensity of reverberation.

The goal was to produce a surround recording of a brass band competition. Ten brass bands performed the same challenge in sequence over and over again.  This allowed us plenty of time to extensively evaluate the 2498 Yardstick for 4 hours. The challenge for the 2498 was to arbitrarily extend the room's original two-second reverberation time. After no more than a few minutes (!), we brought home the bacon - no audible difference compared to the original room reverberation any more.

Many instrumentalists walked by and listened in, flabbergasting with their inability to perceive any difference at all. All of them had begun with the firm conviction that "artificial reverb can always be distinguished with ease". Thanks to Quantec, we could disprove this widespread, but false statement.

The result? All involved parties were deeply impressed and extraordinarily enthusiastic about what the 2498 Yardstick was able to achieve for them.
